Pool tourney winners will head to Vegas

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Competition was fierce today as the Hub City hosted the region's biggest pool tourney.
Men and women from six counties were battling it out at Hattiesburg's Kingpins, fighting for a pretty appealing prize: A trip to Las Vegas.

The winner of the tournament will head to Nevada to play in the national championship tournament. "When they get to Vegas there's like 650 teams competing and they're competing for about a million and a half in prize money which isn't too bad," said League Operator John Brasili.

Sunday afternoon there were four teams left standing, whittled down from sixteen teams that were playing when the competition kicked off on Friday. "They're having a good time, very competitive no doubt. A little tension at times but it's generally fun and good sportsmanship and very competitive," said Brasili.

The winners were declared Sunday evening: 'The Fun Bunch', which practices at Your Place bar in Meridian will be headed to Vegas. The team includes Captain Jan Miles, Eddie Thortenberg, Wesley Thortenberg, Susan Buffington, John Gray, Jennifer Gray and Daniel Mosley.

The team wins a trophy cup that's big enough to brag about, some money and of course - that sought after trip West to represent the Pine Belt on the Vegas strip.
