Gospel Voices and BBQ mark Festival South's first Sunday

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Folks headed out for a gospel lunch at Hattiesburg's Bottling Company Sunday afternoon. The soulful event was part of the second day of the Pine Belt's two-week Festival South. Roots Gospel Voices of Mississippi sang and entertained from the stage while diners took in some lunchtime barbeque.

It was crowded like a Sunday lunch should be, a 10 percent discount off of menu prices may have helped. "It's usually pretty busy, like this," said The Bottling Company's Gabby Gara. "They all come at once so it's usually really busy, really fun, we have a good time."

Festival South kicked off Saturday and this is just the first in a lineup of events the venue will host for the festival. They'll host the same gospel lunch next week and other acts coming up include The Larry Panella Jazz Quartet, a show-tune cabaret, and a performance by Vasti Jackson.

"We have these events here because the owner of the building actually is a sponsor of Festival South so we're going to have a bunch of events for the next two weeks," said Gara.
