Special on kitten adoptions at Southern Pines Animal Shelter

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

If you've been thinking about adopting a kitten, now is a great time to do so.

During the summer months the adoption fee for kittens at the Southern Pines Animal Shelter is only $25. The reduced fee is $50 less than usual and includes their spay or neuter surgery, first shots, and a micro chip for permanent identification.

The shelter is running the special because of the large amount of kittens that have been dropped off in the past few weeks. In the last two days alone more than 80 were dropped off.

"It's puppy and kitten season and the shelter is overwhelmed right now with animals," said Katherine Sammons, Assistant Manager, Southern Pines Animal Shelter. "If you can't adopt, a great thing you can do is be willing to foster an animal for a few weeks to get them out of the shelter. Our foster program is stretched to the limit. Every foster home we have has an animal right now."

The shelter is located on North 31st Avenue in Hattiesburg. Their open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For information call 601-544-6632.
