Mississippi Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney speaks to delegates at the annual American Legion Boys State at Southern Miss Friday.
HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -
Mississippi's insurance commissioner spoke to delegates at the annual American Legion Boys State Friday morning. Mike Chaney, who also serves as state fire marshal, talked about his job and answered questions from the delegates about insurance, healthcare and other issues.
Boys State gives high school seniors a chance to learn how state government works. During the weeklong event, state officers are elected and laws are passed.
"I want to leave these kids with an inspiration to do good, that they can make a difference in the world today, if they get out and hold true to true ideas," Chaney said.
Before his speech, Chaney met Skyler Flowers of Sumrall, who was elected insurance commissioner for Boys State earlier this week.
