Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) addresses delegates to the American Legion Boys State Wednesday night.
HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -
Delegates attending the annual American Legion Boys State in Hattiesburg got a valuable lesson in American government from a former delegate who is now a U.S. senator.
Roger Wicker spoke to delegates Wednesday night at Bennett Auditorium at Southern Miss. Wicker was a delegate to Boys State in 1968 and he says the experience taught him a lot about state government and friendship.
"It's the hands-on experience I think that's the best government lesson and then, far and away, the most important thing is the people you meet," said Wicker. "These people will be friends for the rest of their lives," he said.
Thursday morning, delegates will hear from retired judge Charles Pickering.
