Jasper County child dies in hot car

JASPER COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A 2-year-old Jasper County child died on Memorial Day after apparently locking herself inside a car on the hottest day of the year.

Authorities say the girl apparently crawled into the car on Monday and was locked inside for nearly two hours while temperatures outside reached 98 degrees. Deputies said the girl's parents last saw her about 1:15 p.m., and the emergency call came in just before 3 p.m.

The child was unresponsive when medical help arrived at the scene. The incident happened in downtown Louin. Authorities are continuing to investigate but say it appears no foul play was involved.
