Laurel Ward 7 residents challenges the city redistricting map
LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -
A resident in Laurel is challenging the city redistricting map that will soon be filed with the U.S. Justice Department.
Ward Seven resident Anthony Hudson emailed Seven On Your Side stating that 500 to 600 black voters were taken from ward seven and placed into ward one.
Hudson said the move was made to prevent the annexation of Pendorff into the city limits.
However, the chairman of the council's redistricting committee, Trey Chinn said those allegations are simply not true and that no one spoke out about this matter during the public hearing about redistricting.
