HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Youth Challenge Program are uniting to remember the service of thousands of Hattiesburg-area veterans who've passed away.

Saturday morning, members of V.F.W. Post 3036 and Youth Challenge cadets will place about 3,000 American flags on the graves of veterans at three Hattiesburg cemeteries, Highland, Roseland Park and Oaklawn.

It's an annual tribute to veterans on Memorial Day weekend.

"We'll start there at Highland approximately 8 o'clock Saturday morning putting those out and we'll finish up down next to our V.F.W. at Oaklawn Cemetery," said Louis George, a V.F.W. member.

The flags will remain on the graves for one week.
