Hattiesburg woman arrested, charged with previous husband's murder

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

A University of Southern Mississippi employee is in the custody of Forrest County authorities.

Linda Doreen Gwozdz was served with an arrest warrant in Hattiesburg by U.S. Marshals on Tuesday morning for the April 2007 murder of her husband Patrick Albert Duffey. She was booked at the Forrest County Sheriff's Department.

According to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Lieutenant Matthew Burson, Gwozdz and her husband were living in Los Angeles County at the time of her husband's death. Then, Gwozdz was known as Linda Doreen Duffey.

Burson added the investigation was ongoing until recently, when the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department received new information that led to Tuesday morning's arrest.

Gwozdz has worked at USM since September of 2010. She was the clinical secretary in the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences in the College of Health.
