DREAM of Hattiesburg celebrates Prevention Week

Mayor Johnny Dupree presented a proclamation to DREAM of Hattiesburg proclaiming May, 20 through May, 26 as National Prevention Week in the city.

National Prevention Week is a new annual health observance by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration that celebrates the work the community organizations like DREAM do to prevent substance abuse. It also recognizes what these organizations do to promote mental, emotional, and behavioral well being.

Throughout the week DREAM will present several programs on substance abuse prevention.

"We're running a campaign that focuses on primarily four areas," said Linda Vasquez, DREAM of Hattiesburg. "We're looking at alcohol, underage drinking, suicide, prescription drug, and marijuana."

The theme for the week is "We are the ones, How are you taking action."
