City holds memorial service for fallen HPD officers

Hattiesburg (WDAM) - To the sound of taps and gunshots, four fallen Hattiesburg Police officers were memorialized.  Onlookers watched in somber silence as the flag flew at half-mass.  One of them was the wife of Sergeant David Anthony, who was shot and killed while responding to an alarm call.

"There's a lot of young men out there who don't the danger of the job.  This is a big, good reminder to them," said Nell Anthony Cooley. Young HPD captain, Peggy Sealy certainly hasn't forgotten, but tries to focus on the job at hand rather than the possibility of giving the ultimate sacrifice.

"I try not to think about it, and try to just leave home happy and not think about it,"said Sealy.

The Mississippi State Department of Health reported there are now 12 cases of West Nile Virus in our state Thursday morning. Although, every case is serious, that number pales in comparison, to the 247 cases in 2012. Still, you have to put a human face onto these figures to really know what this virus is capable of doing.
