Women's Health Center offer free screenings


Seeing the doctor can be expensive especially if you don't have insurance, but Wednesday the Southeast Mississippi Rural Health Initiative is offering free health screenings for women at the Women's Health Center in Palmers Crossing.

 This week is National Women's Health Week and ladies can come and receive free blood pressure, BMI, cholesterol, and HIV screenings. The center is also offering free breast exams, Mammogram's and Pap smears for women who are 40 to 65 years of age, and are uninsured or underinsured.

Wednesday morning , the center held a special ceremony in honor of National Women's Health Week, where the center receive a proclamation from guest speaker Mrs. Johniece DuPree , and the center also received a grant according to the Director of Grants Ivie Pullium.

 "Southeast Mississippi Rural Health Initiative is pleased to announce that it has received a grant in the amount of $60,000 from the Avon Foundation for Women to provide outreach services for breast health," said Pullium.

Women can come and take advantage of all the free screenings until 5:00 this afternoon. You can call 601-544-4550 for more information. The proclamation declares from now, the week after Mother's Day will not only be National Women's Health Week, but the Wednesday of that week will be free screening day at the Women's Health Center.
