JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

Family and friends gathered at the site of an accident that killed two adults and three children on Highway 11 in Moselle in May of 2011.

The five were killed when the Suburban they were in left the road, crashed into a utility pole and landed in a creek bed.

Killed in the accident were Joanie Martin, 27, Bruce Myrick, 26, Timothy Milam, 7, Haley Sumrall, 5, and Tommy Myrick, 6. Myrick's wife Janet was critically injured in the accident and spent several weeks in the hospital.

Joanie's husband Joshua Martin led the gathering in prayer, then balloons were released to remember the five who perished.

"All we can do is go to church and lean on God.  That's the only place you can go, because it's the only peace you will ever get," said Martin. "Stay close to your family and friends and try to work through it together."

Ten days after the accident a cross made from the utility pole the victims vehicle hit was placed at the site as permanent memorial.
