State's Chris Stratton named top college baseball player in Mississippi

Mississippi State's top pitcher is now the top collegiate baseball player in the Magnolia State. On Monday in Jackson, the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame named Bulldogs pitcher Chris Stratton the recipient of the C Spire Ferris Trophy, given annually to the state's best player.

The junior beat out Delta State left-handed pitcher Colton Mitchell and Ole Miss second baseman Alex Yarbrough by going 9-1 in ten starts, striking out 107 batters in the process. Additionally, he walked only 19 batters in his 89 innings of action.

Stratton helped the Bulldogs to a 31-20 overall record, and a 13-14 mark in SEC play. State will conclude the regular season with a weekend series against Kentucky before beginning the SEC Tournament.
