Hunt Club padlocks its doors

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The doors of the infamous Remington's Hunt Club in Hattiesburg have been padlocked, presumably by its owners.

Chains and locks have been placed on the doors of the Hunt Club and its companion business, Champion Bowling Lanes. A sign on the door says both businesses are closed and employees can pick up their checks at attorney Wayne Hynum's office Tuesday afternoon.

Monday, Hynum told Seven on Your Side, that all he knows, is that the businesses are closed.

Hattiesburg Police and the District Attorney's office shut down the Hunt Club back in March of 2011, following the wounding of four people in two separate shooting incidents in the Club's Parking lot, including three Southern Miss Football players. A judge later ruled the Hunt Club could re-open.

Parent company Champion Lanes LLC, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2011, faces a couple of multi-million dollar lawsuits.  One of which includes football player Martez Smith, who was paralyzed from the waist down as a result of a November 2010 shooting outside the club.

Efforts to reach owner Bill Norris of Meridian have been unsuccessful.
