Another deserving Hub City resident is benefiting from a partnership between the City of Hattiesburg and the Salvation Army which is helping to eliminate sub-standard housing.

Friday, a dedication ceremony was held for the new home of Vannie Nicholson on Miller Street. Nicholson is the most recent recipient of a new home as part of the city's Housing Reconstruction Program. It's funded through the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The cost of Nicholson's home was $100,000. The city paid $75,000, while the Salvation Army paid the remaining $25,000.

"I'm living in a better place, I love it and I know I'm going to enjoy it," said Vannie Nicholson, after cutting a ribbon and receiving the key to her front door from Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny Dupree.

"It's really a special feeling when you see the fruits of your labor finally come to fruition, so we're really excited about it," said Franklyn Tate, director of state and federal programs for the City of Hattiesburg.

This was the 5th and final home constructed as part of the partnership with the Salvation Army.
