CAMP SHELBY, MS (WDAM) - Military retirees were treated to a day in their honor at Camp Shelby Thursday.

The post rolled out the red carpet to say thank you to more than 400 former members of the Mississippi National Guard during the annual Retiree Day.

The retirees were greeted by post commander Col. Brad Smith and Maj. Gen. Augustus Collins, Mississippi's Adjutant General.

The retirees also enjoyed lunch and viewed some of the newest vehicles and aircraft used by the National Guard.

"Whether they were in the Army, Army National Guard, Air Force or Air Force Reserve, it doesn't matter, as long as you're a retiree, you're welcome to come and participate and see some of your old friends," said Collins.

The retirees were also invited to tour the many exhibits at the Mississippi Armed Forces Museum.

Following a school-record 55 wins and run that ended in an 8-7 loss in the NJCAA national championship, Jones County Junior College softball is eager to open the 2018 season on February 3. Coming that close to the school’s first national title serves as motivation enough for the Lady Bobcats. Regardless, expectations are always high for coach Chris Robinson’s teams – JCJC is a combined 105-12 the last two seasons.
