COVINGTON COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

About two dozen coal cars from a Canadian National freight train derailed just outside Collins Wednesday morning.

The accident, which happened about 7:30 a.m. near the Kola Road intersection, involved a train headed south with a total of about 105 cars, all filled with coal.

No one was injured and no roads were blocked. An undetermined amount of coal was spilled. Some rails and one small bridge were also damaged.

"We've had a derailment at this location within a couple of years past," said Chief John Pope of the Collins Fire Dept.  "There have been multiple derailments over the years, but nothing of this magnitude or this size," Pope said.

Authorities said the cause of the derailment is under investigation and they said it will take about three days to clean up the site and make repairs.
