Johnson still "gathering facts" on Woodyard arrest

Head Coach Ellis Johnson confirmed reports that police arrested University of Southern Mississippi running back Jamal Woodyard Friday night, though he also said he will "continue to gather the facts of this case."

The Associated Press reports Woodyard, a redshirt sophomore, was arrested and charged with felony second-degree robbery Friday night, and released from jail on $15,000 bail the following Saturday. Johnson's brief statement, released Monday night, simply states, "I have been made aware of the situation regarding Jamal...When we complete our review of all the facts in this matter, I will take appropriate action then."

Woodyard rushed for a team-high 732 yards, averaged a team-best 6.7 yards a carry, and scored three touchdowns on the season. He was expected to be a vital weapon in the Golden Eagles' offense this upcoming season.
