A 50-state International Peace and Harmony Torch Run passed through Hattiesburg Friday afternoon.

The runners arrived at City Hall where Hattiesburg Fireman Lieutenant Jimmie Harrell joined them for the four block run to Hawkins Elementary School where the kids were holding a pep rally for the upcoming MCT2 test.

The Harmony Run is traveling the world to encourage good will at the local levels. These runs occur in more than 100 nations throughout North and South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia. The 12-member international team traveling across America started out in New York City and will be on the road for four months passing through cities and towns advancing the ideals of world harmony.

"This was the vision of Sri Chinmoy who is a world peace advocate," said Arpan DeAngelo, World Harmony International Team. "He advocated spreading harmony through our own good qualities whether it's athletic, creative, or music or any kind of abilities we have. To share that with others and that really is how harmony and peace spreads, one person at a time."

Since its inception in 1987, more than 5,000,000-people have participated in the run.
