Jones County black bear captured

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A black bear sighted in Jones county Thursday was captured by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife on Friday.

The bear was tranquilized, collared, and then sent to an undisclosed public reserve.

A family in the area contacted authorities after they awoke to find the black bear in their back yard. They said they were alerted when the bear knocked over a bird feeder as he was eating the bird food.

The family says the bear ran away when they went outside, but returned about 20 minutes to finish eating the bird seed, and then he disappeared.

A WDAM photographer was able to track down the bear and capture footage of it as it wandered in the wilderness.
