Rebels shut out Golden Eagles 3-0 in Pearl

PEARL, MS (WDAM) -

The Golden Eagles could only muster four hits, and Rebels pitcher Josh Laxer turned in a solid seven-inning night to give Ole Miss a 3-0 shut-out win over Southern Miss in Pearl. Laxer gave up only four hits and struck out five in seven innings of work.

For the Black and Gold, Dillon day pitched five innings and struck out three, but gave up six hits and allowed all three runs. He took the loss for Southern Miss (25-19).

Three batters churned out RBI for Ole Miss (29-16), who scored two in the second inning and one in the fourth to seal the win. All four of the Golden Eagles' hits came off the bats of second baseman Isaac Rodriguez and catcher Austin Roussel, who both went two-for-two.

Southern Miss doesn't have much time to think of the loss, as they'll return home Wednesday May 2 for a home matchup with Grambling State. First pitch is set for 6 pm.

Of note, the flags in left field at Trustmark Park were lowered halfway to mourn Mike Walter, a Pearl Investigator who was shot and killed Tuesday evening. He was 37 years old.
