Prescription drug drop off day in Hattiesburg big success

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Hattiesburg Police say their first prescription drop off  day was a huge success.

The drop off day was held this past weekend. People brought in their old prescription medications to the police department. The event was held to encourage people to dispose of the old medications in a safe manner.

In all, four boxes and eight large trash bags equaling more than 500 pounds were collected.

The medications will be turned over to the Drug Enforcement Agency for proper disposal. Because of the success of this event, the department plans on holding another drop off day in the future.
