Jasper County authorities need community help with unsolved murders

Jasper County sheriff department is reaching out to the community with hopes of making some arrest in a couple unsolved murders cases.

Thursday at 6:30p.m. authorities will hold a community meeting at the Oak Bowery Fire Department to update the public on two unsolved murders in their area.

Authorities are still searching for leads in the Maurice McDonalds case. McDonalds was found shot to death in his home on County Road 8, west of Heidelberg last July.

Investigators are also still searching for leads in the murder of George McCollum, 62, who was found beaten to death in his home in the Oak Bowery Community. Also found severely beaten was his 64 year-old brother, who is still ICU in critically condition.

Investigators say they believe both murders were a result of home invasions.
