HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Tatum Park in Hattiesburg will be busy Saturday night with more than just baseball games and soccer matches...it will also be hosting an annual event which is helping in the fight against cancer.

The Forrest County Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society began at 3 p.m.

Each year, cancer survivors, family members and folks who want to help beat that disease gather for a 12-hour relay to raise money and awareness.

"Relay for life is really a celebration," said Kim Richardson, entertainment chairperson for the Forrest County Relay for Life. "We come to celebrate those people who have battled cancer. We come to remember those loved ones that we have lost and also, to make a commitment to fight back against cancer," Richardson said.

There are many more relays scheduled in the coming days, including one next Friday night at Southern Miss.
