Southern Miss hosts annual Living with Grief Program

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

It's not a pleasant topic to talk about, but sometimes it's necessary. Discussing end-of-life care.

End-of-life care was the topic during a viewing of the Hospice Foundation of America's 19th annual Living with Grief Program held on Southern Miss's campus Thursday morning.

This year's discussion focused on end-of-life ethics. Healthcare professionals evaluated case-study approaches, ethical dilemmas and principles that staff and families may face at the end of a loved one's life.

Assistant to the Dean, in the College of Health, Susan Hubble Burchell says the Living with Grief Program is an instrumental end-of-life education tool.

"It provides the health care providers with information to develop processes in their care of patients. It provides faculty and staff with timely issues as students transition to the job setting. It provides community members with information just to start the discussion with their families about their own end of life care," said Burchell.
