Rebels take down Bulldogs 6-3 in Governor's Cup

PEARL, MS (WDAM) -

Ole Miss broke open a 1-1 tie ball game in the top half of the fourth inning, scoring four runs, and later held on to preserve a 6-3 win over their in-state rival Mississippi State. The Rebels (25-12) out-hit the Bulldogs (21-16) 10-6, with first baseman Matt Snyder leading with way with two RBI and a run scored on three of four hitting.

Rebel relief pitcher Hawtin Buchanin, who entered in the third inning, earned his first win of the season, striking out five and allowing no hits in two and two-thirds innings of action. Bulldog starting Brandon Woodruff suffered his first loss of the season, seven hits, five runs, all of them earned, while only striking out three.

The Rebels return home on Friday to begin a three-game weekend series against Arkansas, while the Bulldogs return to Starkville to begin their weekend series with Tennessee.
