PETAL, MS (WDAM) -
A Petal musical group is set to take part in a world championship competition this weekend. The Petal Indoor Percussion Theater will compete in the 35th Winter Guard International World Championships in Dayton, Ohio.
The 38-member group from the Friendly City will perform a seven-minute show with a "British Invasion" theme.
Tuesday night, they gave hometown supporters a first-look at their program with a free performance at Petal High School.
"It's just an honor for me to have the community support like we do in Petal," said Tony Lymon, director of the Petal Indoor Percussion Theater.
"On average, we put at a minimum of 12 hours per week just practicing and so, it really does pay off in the end, especially to see the audiences response to our shows," said Zach Hales, a member of the group.
The preliminary competition will be Friday. The finals will be held on Saturday.
