HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The congregation of one Hattiesburg church was spreading a little holiday cheer Saturday by saving motorists a little money at the gas pump. The Members of West Point Baptist Church were participating in what they called a "Gas Price Rollback" at several gas stations in the Hattiesburg area.

For one hour, the church paid $.25 of every gallon purchased by drivers who passed through. Church members even pumped the gas.

The event attracted a large number of grateful motorists to an Exxon station on Broadway Drive.

"They're doing a good thing and I appreciate it," said motorist Marcie Johnson.

"God is providing this for us and this is a blessing...this is a blessing," said Mary McGowan, another driver who accepted the church's offer to pay for part of her gas.

"Our example is Jesus Christ," said Marcus Cathey, pastor of West Point Baptist Church. "He's the ultimate giver, so we want to be a blessing to the community, so we came back to roll the prices of the gas back $.25 to just bless the community," Cathey said.

The "Gas Price Rollback" was held at two stations in Hattiesburg and one each in Laurel and Bassfield.
