HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Hundreds of runners and walkers participated in a Hattiesburg event Saturday which celebrates healthy living and encourages patients to have better relationships with their doctors.

The 2nd annual Doctors' Day Dash was held on the Longleaf Trace. It was a 5-K run and walk and a one-mile fun run to mark Doctors' Day, a national holiday that dates back to 1991.

Organizers say the goal is to raise awareness about healthy lifestyles and to bring patients and physicians closer together.

"We think it's very important that you have a relationship with your family doctor, your internist, your pediatrician, someone that you go to on a yearly basis, to get your wellness checkup," said Karen Morris, race coordinator. "This is all in honor of the physicians in our town and across the nation, actually," Morris said.

Among the race participants today was Patrick House, the Brandon, Mississippi native and winner of Season 10 of NBC's The Biggest Loser who lost more than 200 pounds during that show.
