HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

You'll have a unique opportunity to see Hattiesburg firefighters undergoing intensive live-fire training at the Turtle Creek Mall Wenesday night. Firefighters will be taking part in the third and final night of some routine training with representatives of the Mississippi State Fire Academy in the mall's north parking lot.

It's the first time this type of training has been done away from the Hattiesburg Police and Fire Training Academy.

About 100 firefighters are participating over the three-day period.

"We felt like this was a good opportunity...we had an open parking lot here at the mall to get out and let the public see us do some training," said Robert Pickering, battalion chief for training and hazardous materials at the Hattiesburg Fire Dept. "We've got barricades around the parking area where we'll be doing the burning...anyone who wants to stay outside that area and watch, they're welcome to come out and join us," Pickering said.

The training starts at 7 o'clock and will last two to three hours.
