Lamar County courthouse construction on target

PURVIS, MS (WDAM) -

Construction still has about one year to go on the Lamar County Circuit Courthouse.

The $4 million renovation project has just about gutted the building - tearing down walls, reinstalling pipes and giving it a full-on makeover. The courthouse has a long history that goes back more than a century and has been deemed an historic building by the state. Lamar County Administrator Chuck Bennett says the project is still on target, and officials are already thinking about the some of the smaller details.

"We've already done things such as start to order the furniture and some of the other different things that have gone along with that," said Bennett. "We're trying to gather some historic documents from the early years to kind of put on display once the building opens up, but everything's worked well."

Lamar County officials hope it will be back up and running by next April.
