Construction of new Oak Grove school delayed

LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

The opening of the new Longleaf Elementary School is delayed from January 2013 to August 2013.

Monday morning Lamar County School District Superintendent Ben Burnett said the opening of the school at the beginning of the 2013 school year will allow for a smoother transition for students, teachers, and the districts main concern the widening of Fourth Street.

"Our main concern is the completion of the Fourth Street project which our board of supervisors are working on, said Burnett. "We are very grateful that Fourth Street will be widened to accommodate traffic flow and to help the new school."

Burnett the set back is also due to rain delays and obtaining wetlands permit.

    The new Miss Hospitality has been crowned in Hattiesburg.  She is Emma Grace McGrew, 18, of Booneville.
