Recent heavy rains have sent many area rivers to flood-stage levels.
On Monday, the Leaf River had overflowed its backs near the town of McLain in Greene County, forcing several road closures.
Many residents have turned to boats in order to leave their homes.
The Pascagoula River at Merril and the Chickasawhay River at Leaksville are also at flood stage, and have caused considerable low-land flooding. Rivers and creeks in the vicinity of Hattiesburg and Laurel have begun to reside, but areas to the south had just hit their crest Monday afternoon.
