LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

Art lovers from the Jones County area gathered Saturday evening to purchase some fine art and help an organization that sponsors several community health initiatives.

The 4th annual, Art of Healing Auction and Exhibition raised money for the South Central Health Care Foundation.

Nearly 200 pieces of art were available for purchase, from paintings and pottery to jewelry and wood working.

"We offer live and silent auction artwork that's been donated by professional and amateur artists," said Brook Jones, director of community relations for South Central Regional Medical Center.

"Because this supports community health screenings, I think that is so important in our community, I wanted to be a part of that," said Carolyn Stone, who attended the auction.

Organizers hoped to raise $25,000 from the auction.
