Man sentenced in theft of Petal High statue

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

One of the four men charged with stealing the panther statue from its perch outside of Petal High School was sentenced in 12th District court Tuesday.

Judge Robert Helfrich sentenced 20-year-old Jordan Thrash to ten years with five years to serve in jail. The penalty is not only for the theft of the $30,000 bronze school statue last May, but also for grand larceny charges, brought after authorities say Thrash burglarized two Petal homes, stealing thousands of dollars in money, guns and jewelry.

Officials say the crimes all happened around the same time last spring.
