A ruling in favor of Forrest County concerning oil storage tanks brought relief to the family of Wade White on Tuesday.
Wade and Devon Byrd were killed in 2009 after an abandoned oil tank exploded in Carnes. After the tragedy, the county adopted an ordinance in 2010 requiring oil storage sites be encased in fencing.
Delphi Oil Company challenged the ordinance in court, but Judge Bob Helfrich ruled in favor of Forrest County Wednesday saying the county does have the authority to pass the ordinance.
Wanda White, the mother of Wade, says she couldn't be happier. "I just want other children to be safe. I don't want another family to experience the loss of a child," said White.
