Former HPD officer pleads guilty to extortion

LAMAR COUNTY (WDAM) - A former Hattiesburg Police officer, indicted on charges that included rape and sexual battery, has pleaded guilty to extortion.

As part of a plea agreement, Juan Gray, 38, relinquished his law enforcement certification.  Gray was ordered to pay $3000 in fines plus court costs.

In exchange, the three original charges were dismissed.  If Gray successfully completes five years of probation, the extortion guilty plea will be cleared from his record.

Authorities say Gray allegedly threatened a then-26-year-old nurse in 2010 with arrest unless she performed sex acts with him.
