HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Monday a pet owner was forced to surrender 40 adult cats to the Southern Pines Animal Shelter.

The surrender has pushed the shelter staff to their limits and forced them to scamper to accommodate the cats. Kittens have been moved to another location to make room for the adult cats.

The cats were well taken care of by the owner and most are in perfect health and are very friendly. Several have also have already had their spay or neuter surgery, are up to date on vaccinations and are ready to be adopted.

The shelter is offering a one time $25 adoption fee for the ones that are ready to go home.

"There's a lot of need for space and figuring out how we are going to get them all vaccinated," said Katherine Sammons, Assistant Manager, SPAS. So it's a bit of a bind on the staff, but we're glad to do it. We would just love to see all these guys go to good homes.

For information how you can help the shelter by adopting one of these cats contact the shelter at 601-544-6632.
