Hattiesburg Fire Department holds training exercises at USM

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The Hattiesburg Fire Department is holding training exercises on the Southern Miss campus.

The university donated the old Kappa Aloha fraternity to the department for the burn exercises. The department graduated new recruits in December and the extra training gives them an opportunity to learn from veteran firefighters in a controlled environment.

The training will be going on through Wednesday so residents in the area should expect to see small fires and smoke during that time.

Once the exercises are complete the rubble will be cleared to make way for approximately 70 new parking spaces.
