Firefighters respond to oil storage fire in Jefferson Davis County

The City of Collins Fire Department's Special Operations Response Team responded to a crude oil storage site fire in Jefferson Davis County just off of Shivers-Booth Road on Wednesday.

Authorities were notified at 10:22 a.m. of the fire involving two crude oil storage tanks containing over 800 barrels or 33,600 gallons of crude oil owned by the Penn Virginia Oil & Gas Corporation.

Company representatives contacted the City of Collins Fire Department and requested their assistance to extinguish the fire. 

The fire was extinguished in less than an hour from the initial call. Responding agencies included the City of Collins Fire Department, Prentiss Fire Dept., Clem VFD, New Hebron VFD, Jeff Davis EMA, MS Oil & Gas Board & Penn Virginia Oil & Gas Corp. personnel.

There were no injuries & no damage to any other property off site. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the MS Oil & Gas Board and Company Officials.
