Sen. Roger Wicker speaks to law officers during a luncheon in Purvis Friday.
PURVIS, MS (WDAM) -
Some Democrats are calling on President Obama to tap into the country's Strategic Petroleum Reserve in order to lower gas prices. But, Senator Roger Wicker says that would be a bad idea.
"The Strategic Petroleum Reserve is for huge emergencies...we used it and I think properly so, after Katrina," said Wicker. "It's not designed to help politicians in the middle of an election year, when they are a little worried about gas prices being too high," he said.
Wicker added, "The United States has 250 years worth of recoverable oil that we could use if the regulations would allow us to do that."
Senator Wicker was in Purvis Friday for monthly law enforcement luncheon.
