Two Laurel men were arrested in a  Friday morning drug raid in Laurel.

The unidentified men were taken into custody at around 9:00 a.m. at a residence in the 2000 block of Airport drive just three houses away from the home of Laurel Mayor Melvin Mack. A small amount of marijuana and drug packaging materials were confiscated. Also confiscated was a shotgun and shells.

The raid was the result of a month long investigation involving the Laurel Police Drug Unit, the investigative division, and the patrol division. The investigation began after several complaints were received about drug activity in the neighborhood.

"We all work together to get these things off the streets," said Michael Reaves,  Sgt. Laurel Police Drug Unit. "If you've got drug activity or anything you suspect in the community please call us. We can't be everywhere at once and the citizens are our eyes and ears in the public.

The two men are in the Jones County Jail pending their arraignment.
