HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The Spay and Neuter Clinic of the Southern Pines Animal Shelter opened the doors to their new location Wednesday.

The clinic is now located in the old Deville building At the intersection of Hardy Street and Hutchinson Avenue in Hattiesburg. The new location gives the clinic more space to work with and is more visible to the public. Two new features at the clinic scheduled to be ready in month will be a glassed in roaming area where people can view adoptable cats and kittens and a room where puppies up for adoption can be seen.

Since opening in 2009 the clinic has spayed more than 13,000 animals which has greatly reduced the number of unwanted pets in the Pine Belt.

"We've actually brought down significantly the number of animals coming to the shelter," said Valerie Rachal, SPAS Research and Development Manager. "It dropped from in the vicinity of 9000 to 10,000 animals a year to just about 7000 last year. That's a huge impact and that's why we do what we do."

The clinic is now open five days a week, Monday thru Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Their phone number stays the same at 601-544-5678.
