Pine Belt ladies searching for prom dresses

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

The trends of prom 2012 will make picking a prom dress difficult for high school girls this year.

"They want to be individuals and show that style off," said Alecia Wood, Consultant with Mimi's Bridal in Laurel.

Glamour is the word this prom season, according to Wood. Girls have glitz, sparkle and sequence to marvel at, and you can't forget color.

"The yellows and the corals, but you will see everything from greens and blues this season,"said Wood.

Wood says girls will be looking at short dresses, long gowns and even feathers. With such a large selection, girls you may wonder is there anything for the guys? But Wood says they like prom as much as their dates.

"They want to look good and they want to have fun. One thing that I think with the tuxedos this year, and that is we'll see a more fitted more tailored tuxedo. The vest and ties of course can be chosen to match the girls dresses," said Wood.

One dress the guys will have to match is topping the prom dress chart, and that's the high-low look.  It's the same sentiment across county lines at Susan's Shoppe in Oak Grove.

"I would say the high low is popular because it is the glam of the long dress in the back, and the short dress in the front," said Heather Thompson, Manager of Hattiesburg's Susan's Shoppe.

Thompson says there is something for everyone this season.

"The Hollywood glam the fully sequence look. The awesome neon colors. The romanticism of and the femininity of this years popular styles," said Thompson.
