HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

An icon of children's literature met with kids in Hattiesburg today to promote a new art exhibit in Jackson that's all about him.

"Curious George" played with children at Bianchi's Pizza and helped them make paper hats. His visit is helping to publicize a new exhibit at the Mississippi Musuem of Art which opens next month.

It's called, Curious George Saves the Day: The Art of Margret and H. A. Rey.  The Reys were the creators of Curious George and other characters in children's literature.

All the materials in the exhibit come from the de Grummond Children's Literature Collection at the University of Southern Mississippi.

"The exhibit has traveled all over the United States," said Ellen Ruffin, curator of the de Grummond Collection. "It's been in New York, where it originated, it's gone to San Francisco, to Virginia, to Massachusetts and now, George will come home to Mississippi," Ruffin said.

That exhibit opens March 3 and runs through July 22.
