A state board member of the Department of Mental Health says more cuts will nearly shut the department down.
Robert Landrum, who has served on the board of mental health for the last 16 years, says the department can't afford any cuts on a federal or state level. Tuesday, he asked Jones County Supervisors to contact legislators to stop nearly 13 million in planed cuts.
Landrum says "It will mean jobs, that is just a bottom line, it will mean jobs. Not only will it mean jobs, it will mean individuals maybe going home that their family members are ill-equipped to take care of."
Landrum added that on top of all the cuts, there are a half million people that need to be served.
