Man spooked by 18-wheeler, jumps off Bouie River bridge

FORREST COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A man jumped off the Bouie River bridge on I-59 just north of Hattiesburg, when he became concerned that an 18-wheeler truck was going to hit him.

Officials say that around 9:00pm Monday, a man who is not being identified, had a fender bender on the interstate and pulled over on the side of I-59 on the Bouie River Bridge. He then got out of the vehicle to inspect the damage and saw an 18-wheeler approaching fast in the right lane. He believed the semi-trailer truck was going to hit him, so he jumped off the bridge, falling about 15 to 20 feet.  First responders helped him back up and he went to the hospital with just minor injuries.

Ultimately, the 18-wheeler truck ended up switching to the left lane and never struck his vehicle.
