HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Southern Miss students will soon gain dozens of new parking places on the west end of campus. Unfortunately, they'll also be losing dozens more on the east end. USM officials have gotten approval from the State College Board to demolish the old Kappa Alpha fraternity house on N. 34th Ave.

They plan to replace it with about 70 parking spots.

That would help offset the loss of nearly 200 parking places on the other end of campus next to the Trent Lott Center. That area is the planned site of the new College of Business building.

The College Board has also given USM the go-ahead to hire designers for the proposed Century Park South residential complex.

That development will replace the existing Scott and Bond halls near 4th Street.

"He had skills that not everybody possesses," said former Wayne County head baseball coach Michael Gavin. "And the biggest thing was his work ethic. I never had a kid that would work as hard as he do." Gavin saw the potential in Dylan Snypes back when he donned a War Eagle uniform.
