HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Southern Pines Spay and Neuter Clinic will once again offer free vaccinations for pets of low income families.
The event will be held Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the clinic on Highway 49 in Hattiesburg. To be eligible, families gross income must fall below the U.S. Poverty Income Guidelines or be enrolled in a federal assistance program. Proof of both will be required.
Funding for the free vaccinations comes from a $5,000 grant from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The shots will help to protect the pets from many diseases including rabies.
"Many of these diseases are highly contagious, and they can spread easily among the pet population," said Dorothy Ricks, SPAS volunteer. "If your pet is not vaccinated he could easily come down with a highly contagious disease that could either kill it or the owner would have to spend a tremendous amount of money trying to get him well."
During the last free shots event the clinic was able to give vaccinations to more than 150 pets.
